Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. We teach and spread our core values through community service: caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership which were adopted by our Key Club International Board in 2002. Members of Key Club, a part of the community-service based Kiwanis International Family, develop themselves into young leaders as they positively impact their schools and communities.

Today, Key Club exists on almost 5,000 high school campuses, 31 different countries, primarily in the United States and Canada. It has also grown internationally to the Caribbean nations, Central and South America, and most recently to Asia and Australia. With over 12 million hours of community service a year, Key Club International is an organization comprised of multi-state districts, divisions, and individual Key Clubs on high school campuses around the world. Our organization is funded by nominal dues paid by every member, as well as generous contributions by Kiwanis International to fund service-leadership training programs. Key Club’s district & international officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and international conventions. Our community-service organization offers a wide range of opportunities to its members, such as by supporting our International Service Partners March of Dimes (funds research to reduce premature births), UNICEF (works to overcome poverty, violence, discrimination, and disease that afflict children around the world), and Children’s Miracle Network (raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals).

Burbank High School was officially chartered on March 6th 1947, but records indicate BHS Key Club was originally founded during the 1920s, making it one of the first Key Clubs ever established. Through decades of service, we have truly become an integral part of the community serving at countless events with a variety of different organizations.  Our club's numbers have swelled above 200, and we are performing hundreds of hours per month collectively. We understand service and Key Club go beyond just dry numbers and statistics. Service requires passion and determination, both of which are evident in Burbank High Key Club from a day-to-day basis. BHS Key Club is part of Division 16 South (as of 2015), Region 7, and the Cali-Nev-Ha District.

Key Club was established in Sacramento High School in May 1925 by the local Kiwanis organization. The idea behind Key Club was to form a high school service club that allows students to contribute to their communities. Within a few years, it was evident that Key Club was gaining popularity across the United States. Many Kiwanis groups  became interested in the service club's activities and soon sponsored similar organizations in their own cities. In 1939, Florida established enough clubs to hold a state convention and formed the first Key Club district. By 1940, fifty clubs were active in California, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington. In 1943, Key Club districts across the United states traveled to Florida for the first KEY CLUB International Convention in which the first International President was elected --Malcolm Lewis from West Palm Beach, Florida. Key Club continues to grow  not only in the United States, but around the world.

I pledge,
On my honor,
To uphold the objects of Key Club International,
To build my home, school, and community,
To serve my nation and World,
To combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.
